Last night my friends and I got together to have a Lambic Beer tasting. It was brought on by my ongoing search to find this Lambic Beer I tried in Moscow about 5 years ago. I found it last weekend in the Total Wine store and went a little crazy buying every bottle I could find. Amidst my excitement I picked up two bottles of unfiltered raspberry wheat beer, not a Lambic, but it had a raspberry one it. Picking up two bottles of something I was not looking for made for some good laughs later when I discovered my mistake.
Cherish Lambic:
I think the overall consensus of this was Robitussin with a hint of seltzer water. I heard the number 3 being bounced around. Some thought it smelled better than it tasted, some felt the opposite...all of us agreed to go on to the next bottle (my throat was a little scratchy, so I finished it.)
We tried the Strawberry and Raspberry varietals of Timmerman's. They were light and fresh, a very good summer flavor. I believe the comment from our token male guest was "It tastes like a good chick beer."
Lindemans Framboise Lambic was the favorite, it was also the most expensive so it was logical. This was the beer that started the whole event, so I'm glad it turned out to be the favorite. When I return to Moscow, ID I plan to pick up the other flavors and come back to have a round two event.
We also had an apple wine from Walla Walla, WA which was fabulous. A homemade blueberry wine, so delicious and left in my fridge (yes!) We ended the night with a raspberry champagne...totally necessary after the sex scene in "Spanglish" our movie of choice upon my pleading.
The food menu included Bolognese with Trotolle pasta. Buffalo Chicken Dip. Country Ham and Cheese Pretzels Bites with Jalapeno Mustard. And Millionaire Pound Cake.
On a personal note, I love cooking parties where no one is bringing grocery store bakery items and trying to pass them off as their own.
Lastly, we had to keep things real. No one likes to do dishes after drinking that much wine and Lambic...so we drank out of Dixie Bathroom Cups and ate off of paper plates.
